With modern day challenges and obstacles, people of all ages are feeling much more stress and worry, which can often lead to more serious mental illnesses. Specifically, students who juggle school work, extracurricular activities, jobs, and competitive college applications have been struggling with pressure. As high school students, we at Project Zen recognize these everyday stressors and have sought ways to combat the issue.
Our solution is to provide stressed customers with a positive plant companion. Our household succulents provide many benefits to a stressed individual. A study conducted by the Journal of Physiological Anthropology found that interaction with indoor plants can have positive effects on human stress response in suppressing the activity of the sympathetic nervous system. In addition, studies report that words of encouragement often increase one’s performance. Data collected by physiotherapist Margaret Bickers suggests that verbal encouragement, as opposed to no encouragement whatsoever, increases one’s performance of a task by 39%. Our app will feature daily reminders and words of affirmation to encourage the mental wellbeing of those who own plants. Overall, Project Zen is committed to providing a positive mental health experience for customers. |
